Prayer

“ Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:6-7

Can I really talk to God?

You close your eyes, bow your head to pray, and then…nothing. After a few minutes, the day’s to-do list starts running through your mind. Your phone dings, and ooh, and look at all those notifications on Instagram! It doesn’t take much before your prayer time has come and gone without speaking a word to God.

Lots of Christians struggle with prayer. Many of us grow up hearing about prayer but never learning to pray.

Prayer is powerful, but it doesn’t have to be formal. Prayer is simply talking to God about what’s on our minds—from our to-do lists to our friends’ latest drama.

Another beautiful way to pray is to pray the prayer our Lord Jesus taught us, often referred to as "The Lord's Prayer" or the “Our Father.”

THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.
